Ways I stay motivated as an Entrepreneur
Making the leap into being an entrepreneur is no small feat. Being your own boss and staying on top of your business can be a challenge especially if the lack of self discipline and organization is an issue. In order for me to continue to be a good entrepreneur and leader, it takes a lot of time, dedication and practice!
Here are 5 ways I stay motivated running a business
Have a personal mission statement.
While I worked hard to create a mission statement for my business, I also made sure to have a personal mission statement. This is what keeps me going. I keep my mission statement close to me. I read it whenever I need a pick me up. It is my constant reminder and my ‘Why’ for becoming an entrepreneur.
2. Have a routine
This is major for me. I am type A and need routine and organization especially because I work from home. My morning routine consists of waking up around 7:30, walking and feeding the dog, showering, making breakfast and being in my desk chair no later than 9:15. I try my best to do this 5 days a week but usually end up doing it 4 days. Now that I have a newborn, things are very different and I am taking everything one day at a time. I have no routine or schedule because my little guy runs my life now. Once I begin sleep training him and getting him in a routine, I will find the best routine that works for me and the rest of my family.
3. Plan and Plan ahead!
I generally know what I am doing in the next 24 hours as well as the next 365 days. Having short term goals/plans as well as long term goals/plans keeps me on track to make sure things get done. Every day in the morning, I make a to do list of no more than 5-7 things to accomplish. If there are more than 7 things to do, there is a great chance it will not get done. I also feel great being able to cross off those 5-7 things instead of having 20 things on a list and not completing it. Mapping out the year also helps me stay motivated because I get to see where my business is going and how it is growing!
4. Rest
If I don’t sleep, my business suffers. No unfinished task is worth the misery of a missed night of sleep. When you are fresh and rested, your mind is fresh and you can focus with a clear head! I am a huge believer in a power nap!
5. Reward Yourself
I am currently practicing this more. It is easy to have a successful event or launch of a new product and just keep moving forward without taking the time to celebrate! Even if it is something small like buying yourself flowers or having celebration champagne it is important to not skip this step! If you can’t reward yourself for the small victories, how are you going to celebrate the huge ones!?
