My Postpartum Must Haves!
I am seven week postpartum (I know it goes by so quickly) and I want to share a few of my postpartum essentials that have made things so much easier my first weeks weeks getting adjusted to mom life! The hospital provides you with so much when you leave and you are pretty set with supplies for the first 7-10 days home. I’m glad I packed a light hospital bag because I was jamming items into my suitcase to take home (I advise you do the same!) They give you a peri bottle, pads, disinfectant spray and the essentials you need to begin your healing journey! I mentioned this in My Birth Story Blog of things to expect and also what I asked for in the hospital that helped me out tremendously when I got home!
I made an Amazon Favorites List of my postpartum items below, be sure to check it out!
Okay let’s get to it!
Comfortable Clothes
The last thing you want to worry about when you are figuring out feeding and diaper changes and being sleep deprived is comfort. You will have a lot of swelling in your feet and ankles and your belly takes weeks to shrink back down. When I left the hospital I looked 4 months pregnant! There was no way I was squeezing back into my pre-baby clothes! I got a few sets of these pajamas and fun sequence slippers. What I like about the PJ’s was they were still somewhat presentable if I decided to keep them on all day long! I also made sure to have Aquaphor lip repair with me at all times. I love chapstick and this came in handy when I forgot to hydrate. My water bottle from Healthish is perfect for tracking how much water to drink daily.
Frida Mom
Can I wear these everyday? The Frida Mom disposable were a perfect fit for me and super comfy under my clothes. There are so many things happening with your body that you want to be as comfortable as possible, especially your lady parts! Keep in mind after giving birth, you are bleeding for about 6 weeks and will need to wear a pad. I used these disposable underwear everyday under my clothes for around 4 weeks and it made life so easy.
My Brest Friend.
I didn’t believe my friend Michelle when she told me this item is a must have a tops all other competitors. My BrestFriend is UH-Mazing! Because it straps to your body and you can adjust the strap ,feedings are soo much easier and convenient. I can just lay my little one on the pillow and he is right in line with my breast to be fed. I recommend placing this at the top of your registry list!
Nursing Items
I knew from the beginning I wanted to breastfeed so having the right items was a must. The crisis cross design of the wireless Medela bras makes feeding so easy. This bra offers plenty of support but is also light enough to sleep in as well as put nipple pads in to prevent leaking! I bought three! One to wear one to spare one and one in the wash! Your nipples will be put through the ringer those first few weeks of feeding until you get used to it. I used Lanolin Nipple cream like it was going out of business! Having plenty of disposable nursing pads also comes in handy when and if your breast are full and start leaking!
Essential Oil
Nothing like adding a little bit of eucalyptus essential oil to your shower! This gave me 10 minutes to feel like I was at the spa whenever I showered! Put a few drops in a spray bottle and spray your shower walls! Heaven! I made sure to shower everyday. I know you feel like you can’t do it because of the baby but I highly suggest it because you have those few minutes to yourself to regroup and also get in the routine of making it a point to do it everyday! I even made Fridays my “special shower day” I wash and deep condition my hair and also shave my legs and armpits. I love this body scrub from Sabon. It smells divine and leaves my skin feeling silky smooth.
Belly Bands
So I was hesitant to get them at first but let me tell you, After a month of wearing it every day, My stomach was flatter! I of course don't follow directions because you are supposed to wear it every day for 8 hours, but I wore it for about 3 hours a day and saw drastic changes in my stomach! Not only did it help my belly but it also is great back support for breastfeeding.
Sprout.
This app is a lifesaver and great for tracking out nursing, pumping, diaper changes including pee and/or poop and when when he sleeps! You will want to keep track of how much sleep your little one is getting as well as how much they are peeing and pooping because your Pediatrician will want to know these details at the very first newborn appointment! Not having to keep track in my head of the last time he ate or had a wet diaper or how many hours he slept the night before was such a life saver.
My best friend Cortney-
Unfortunately you can not purchase her at Buy Buy Baby but If I didn’t have her I would be completely lost. Her son is two years old so everything is very fresh for her! She is my mom Wikipedia. She had so much great advice on things that worked for her and what was a waste of money! For Example she told me not to get too many of the same brand of diapers because you don’t know if your kid is gonna have chubby thighs or a big belly etc. Every brand of diapers fits differently! I am glad she shared this because my baby needed Huggies when he was first born and then switched to Pampers. Huggies runs smaller and they were the only thing that fit him at first! Listen to other moms when they tell you their must haves especially if you are a first time mom because honestly you don’t know anything! I am so so grateful for all of the amazing Moms who have reached out to me whether it be from texting, calling or sending me a DM on Instagram! Having support and just hearing other Mama’s say the words “I know” makes things feel so much easier because they have all been there!
