There are so many advantages to start reading to your little one at a young age. Not only do children absorb all the information their little minds can handle, they are also highly influenced by what is in front of them. That is why the books you read to your children can have a huge impact on their lives and how they see the world. Having a diverse bookshelf can not only teach your children kindness, feelings, courage and acceptance but also show different people’s lifestyles, religions and customs. It was very important to us that our son have books where the characters on the pages looked like him and represented him. By having him see black and brown faces it gives him the chance to have role models, feel included and most importantly feel validated. I ask you to join me in diversifying your bookshelf! The younger you start to diversify, the earlier it is normalized and the earlier you can start having conversations with your little ones about all of the beautiful people of the world!
